How to have a family - October 2006
I have had this blog for 9 months and posted minimally. I do enjoy sharing;however, it is not integrated into my work flow yet. I work with a communication system called First Class. Their latest version does have Blogging and Podcasting integrated. I look forward to fully upgrading to that. Why this post? I am considered by some a educational technology guru. I do know lots about technology, but I have barely scratched the surface with RSS, Blogging, PodCasting, and Social bookmarking. How does one keep up with the advances in technology and still have a family life. I have a wonderful wife and two wonderful children that already deal with my work overload spilling home. I look for a solution. Many claim technology gives us more time. I don't agree. Technology takes away our time by giving us access to so many more tools. I want to use the tools to improve my practice and share that learning with others. If I was just a newspaper reading teacher that went to school in the morning, and came home at the end of the day, would I have enough to teach todays Digital Natives. Could I use my then surplus of spare time to dabble in technology? Would I then become addicted too. I guess that is it. I am addicted to life long learning. I guess I need to find the balance between living life and learning life. Musingly, Kevin
